Decisions-Decisions...

Playing a gig tomorrow night, and i have an hour of it put together..
Unfortunately its the last hour...
It always happens,i go up with intention of getting the first hour and a half together, you know to set the mood for the onslaught that will follow in the other 2 and a half hours. But...
I always get distracted by a sleeve of a track i haven't played in a while,so obviously i go and play it.Then I get into it and go digging for something to compliment it....

..I come out of the trance/frenzy of mixing about an hour later,i have a lovely group of tracks that float beautifully into each other..i am happy with the set..
But what i have to do now is just get the other 3 hours of stuff together (this will be done on the fly at the gig)

So what i need is to pick the first track of the evening. The one that will make people prick up their ears, one they are listening then everything will flow in nicely..

Now,

What to pick, from a few thousand records,to start the journey....?

Bugger!!

Funny thing is,knowing myself,if i play that well crafted hour in the end,I will be VERY surprised..

  1. I've always found the last hour the easiest. It flies past.
It's the rest of the night that's tricky. The temptation to play something that really belongs at the end is too much.
